What to do in Vegas if you don’t party

Las Vegas probably isn’t the top of my list of places to go. I don’t drink alcohol, party, or gamble. BUT, Las Vegas still has a ton to offer! Even as a Wasatch-Front Living, Church Going, Mormon. Las Vegas can be appealing because it’s less than a days drive, is a lot warmer than up north, and you can even find awesome flight and hotel deals!

Since getting married, Dave and I have visited Vegas four times. Three times we went alone and stayed overnight, and the other time was a day trip with some friends while staying in Mesquite! I decided to write A Mormon’s Guide to Las Vegas because recently on our flight home from our trip to Vegas, I sat next to a lady who was very interested in what we could do in Vegas as Mormons. What I realized when I was planning our trips, it’s more than just what to do, it’s what to avoid while in Vegas. So here are some of my favorite things to do in Vegas, what we have planned if we go back, and some tips for your trip there!

Find a nice place to stay

This has been THE most important thing for us! Staying somewhere that is more family friendly, doesn’t have a casino, and has a designated pool for partying (or not partying) makes all the difference. When we choose to go to Las Vegas it’s usually just to relax and so it’s important to us to have somewhere that feels a bit nicer.

Twice we’ve stayed at The Signature at MGM Grand. What is awesome about this place is how nice it is (book when you can find a deal), it has three pools, one for parties, one for relaxing, and one for families. So I was NEVER bugged by loud music or kids splashing me ;) We love that there is no casino in the hotel we stay at so we’re not smelling all the smoke and don’t have to walk through a bunch of gambling to get to our room.

It’s also nice that it’s connected to the MGM so if we wanted to do anything there, it was really close!

Invest in the Monorail – Linq Line

One thing that we did this last trip was used the Monorail, it takes you from one end of the strip to the next and has multiple stops too! We got on in the MGM and got off near the Linq hotel. It also runs on the back of the strip, not on it! Not only is this super convenient, but it saves you from walking along the strip and all that comes along with that. I loved getting to the restaurants we wanted to go to without having to avert my eyes at every corner.

Plan to eat some yummy food

Vegas is home to some of the World’s Best food! Neither Dave or I am very adventurous when it comes to food so this would be up to you, but we didn’t get a chance to go to Shake Shack when we were in New York last time, and I’d heard how good it was! Once I found out it was in Vegas I was so ready to try it. Also, my pregnancy cravings have included hamburgers non-stop so this was an absolute must. We would have loved to try Bobby Flay’s burger place too but ran out of meals haha. We usually try to do a buffet as well, when we stayed at Treasure Island they gave us a buy one get one free! This last time we went to the MGM Buffet at lunch time because it’s cheaper then!

Visit the “Worlds”

Coke World

If you haven’t been to Coke World, you’re missing out! It’s fun and unique and you can try different Coke from around the world! Tons of cool souvenirs too, if you’re into that kind of thing.

M&M World

Get your favorite color M&M’s! They have walls of M&M’s that look like a fabric store, you can choose so many different flavors and colors! Dave and I got our wedding colors when we visited over our anniversary! It was really adorable.

Hershey World

Design your own Hershey’s wrapper! We did a little play on our last name ;) This is located in the New York, New York!

See an exhibit or show

Seeing a show can be fun! But a bit tricky depending on the rating of the show. We chose to see Body Worlds and the Titanic exhibit one time! They were both really cool!

If we’d had a car, we’d have gone out to the 7 Magic Mountains to get some cool pictures. It didn’t seem worth the rental or time for us this time around. I don’t think they’ll be up the next time we make it Las Vegas but I know plenty of people who have visited and it is incredible!

Do a fun activity

Top Golf

Right next door to The Signature. Family-friendly levels, and non-smoking! Plus you pay per bay and not per person. So I didn’t feel bad when my pregnant body only lasted 20 minutes because Dave got to golf for the full hour! They had awesome hot wings too!

Ride the High Roller

This ferris wheel is HUGE! It would be so fun to ride that around!

Hang by the pool

Again, this comes down to where you’re staying. We made the mistake of staying at Treasure Island one time because of the price and it was a terrible experience to go to the pool. So many partiers and it was packed! Lots of alcohol and hard to just enjoy ourselves. Plus finding seats was a nightmare. When we’ve stayed elsewhere even when it was too cold to swim in January, it was warm enough outside to enjoy laying out!

Do some shopping

Vegas has some amazing outlet malls and shopping! We could easily spend a few hours there walking around the outside mall. It’s easiest if you have a car, but you could take a taxi or Lyft there as well.

See the Las Vegas Sign

This took me like 23 years to finally do and I loved it! We pulled over to the Las Vegas sign to get some pictures! People were getting married, there were performers, and I love the pictures! It was really fun!

See a game

Las Vegas has a lot of teams that come around to play. Check to see if anyone you want to see is playing, and the stadium is right downtown! Super convenient.
